Due to its special geomorphologic location the Buje Region is an ideal area for different sports activities, either spontaneously in the natural surroundings being for the most part almost intact, or by joining the existing local sports structures. The period from autumn to late spring is particularly well-suited for biking on roads less travelled. Mountain bike fans have at their disposal a number of marked mountain bike trails described and depicted in detail on a separately issued mountain bike map.

Bike riding across hills and valleys is one of best ways of exploring these gorgeous landscapes and panoramas stretching towards the sea. In the area of Momjan which is situated in the upper part of the Buje Region the horse riding fans, accompanied by experienced guides, can experience the pleasure of riding along the well-trodden riding paths.

There is a versatile network of walking trails for excursions and walks in the total length of 130 km. The longest walking trails are from 30 to 40 km long and the short ones from 4 to 5 km. The walking trails are marked and represent an outstanding opportunity for getting acquainted with the most interesting and most beautiful aspects of the whole area like the unique karst phenomena or the ancient hamlets with houses of white Istrian stone or wild plants spreading different colours and fragrances in each season.


The karst landscape with its unexpected caves, abysses and disappearing streams was the inspiration for the development of speleology and foundation of the speleology club in Buje, whose members as experienced and enthusiastic experts in speleology can be guides for the amateurs wishing to try themselves in this sport.

As far as sports facilities are concerned, the first to be mentioned is a new sports hall in the centre of Buje offering possibility for organizing sports events (volleyball, basket ball, hand ball …) and for the training of sports teams with the accommodation in hotels and private apartments in the surroundings of Buje.

The sports offer includes also two local football grounds and four tennis courts with changing rooms and lightning for sports events by night. Stretching along the coast of Kanegra, amidst of pine woods there is a tourist resort with bungalows, restaurants, various additional services and a sports centre with tennis courts, table tennis, mini golf and mountain bike rental.

There is also a wide choice of water sports: beach canoe, surfboards, windsurfing, motor boats, water scooters, sport fishing and berths for your own boats. Numerous events and spectacles, sports competitions, games and entertainment for children and the amusing event “Nights of Kanegra” make your holidays in the Buje Region pleasant and beautiful.
